The Golden Compass is a fantasy film based on Northern Lights (published as The
Golden Compass in the U.S.), the first novel in Philip Pullman's trilogy His Dark
Materials, and was released on December 5, 2007 by New Line Cinema. It stars
Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Eva Green and Dakota Blue Richards. The project
was announced in February 2002, following the success of recent adaptations of
other fantasy epics, but troubles over the script and the selection of a director
caused significant delays. At US$180 million, it was one of New Line's most
expensive projects ever, and its middling success in the US contributed to New
Line's February 2008 restructuring.

The story concerns Lyra, an orphan living in a fantastical parallel universe in which
a dogmatic theocracy called the Magisterium threatens to dominate the world.
When Lyra's friend is kidnapped, she travels to the far North in an attempt to
rescue him and rejoin her uncle.

Before its release, the film received criticism from secular organizations and fans of
His Dark Materials for the dilution of the religious elements from the novels, as well
as from some religious organizations for the source material's anti-Christian and
atheistic themes. The film met with mixed reviews, however it did gain both an
Academy Award and a BAFTA for visual effects; and, despite not meeting
expectations at the U.S. box office, was commercially successful taking in over
$372 million worldwide to date.

In a parallel universe (a person's soul resides outside the body in an animal-like
form called a "daemon", Europe is controlled by an authoritarian organization
called the Magisterium. In Oxford, orphaned Lyra Belacqua, a ward of Jordan
College, tells tales of the "Gobblers", whom she and her friends believe are
responsible for several local children's disappearance. Visiting the college is Lyra's
uncle, Lord Asriel, who, against official Magisterium doctrine, is presenting
evidence that particles called "Dust" exist. After Lyra saves Asriel from an
assassination attempt by a Magisterial representative, the college funds his
expedition to the far north to investigate the Dust substance. He believes it
originates in a parallel universe and enters a person's body via their dæmon.
Fearing the effects of Dust, the Magisterium has been experimenting on children to
discover a way to inoculate others against it.

Nice upload, shame its not xbox or ps3 compatable due to having 10 ref frames in the video encode :(
What can I say I haven't got a Xbox or PS3 but it does play excellent on a Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player

Like all high quality downloads I have..;)

But as it happens I was thinking about getting a PS3.

Is it not possible to stream with PS3? Wouldn't that work?
It is possible using tversity or ps3 media server but unfortunately my pc is not fast enough.

I dont know if you encoded it but what dictates the amount of refrence frames? Is it user choice? as the file would have been ok if it was 8 ref frames or less?

I may have to look into a wd media player :)

8 ref frames or less? I will remember that for next time, I just got into the habit of doing 10

Unfortunately my next upload is 10 frames as well but I will bear that in mind for the rest i have.

I would have changed it to five but it does take a long time to encode..
If you could include ref frame details in further releases that would be nice, thanks for your effort.
Firstly, thanks to the uploader.

Secondly:
Anyone have any idea why I can't seem to copy a file this size to a Flash Drive. It always comes up with file too big or not enough space on drive even though the destination drive has plenty of space. Is it something to do with the NTS of FAT drivers not able to support a file over a certain size?

Thanks
Many Thanks. Was looking for a HD version of Compass.

Sneak76, your Flash Drive must be in NTFS format to handle files bigger than 4GB. FAT32 format cannot handle any file bigger than 4GB.
@Sneak76

FAT32 drives unfortunatly do not support single file transfers of over 4GB. What I would do is use a program such as WinRAR or equivalent to break it up into separate pieces and transfer those onto the drive, then uncompress them on the computer that you are transferring to (a good idea would be to use the portable version of WinRAR so to avoid having to install it twice - aviailible here http://www.win-rar.com/unpluggedinfo.html)
Sneak76,

format the the flash drive as NFTS file system and it will work... FAT32 only allows you to copy/move files until 4GB unlike NFTS ;)
Awewsome 100/100 go for it worth doanlod
